I published a handy guide to the Qualidea franchise on my personal blog. Check it out here.
Yay, it’s done! *throws confetti*
A big thanks to coffeelatte, who edited this volume, and to the rest of the Nano Desu team. See you in the next volume!
As always, the PDF/ePub versions will be released after the final edits have been made. Thanks for your patience.
The Qualidea of Scum and a Gold Coin eBook is on sale at Bookwalker for 111 yen until January 7th 2016. Click here for information about how to purchase Japanese books from the Bookwalker website. (Thanks to anony-mouse for the tip.)
You might have noticed that this translation site does not include the novel illustrations. If you’d like to see the illustrations, I highly recommend you buy the novel. If you choose not to buy it from Bookwalker, you can always get it from Amazon. Please consider showing your support to the authors if you enjoyed the translation!
I promised that I would translate this interview with the Qualidea authors, so I here I am.
You can read the full interview in English on my blog.
On another note, I’ve finished the entire draft for Qualidea of Scum and a Gold Coin. Expect to see it on the site sometime early next year. I also expect to start Tachibana Koushi’s novel Itsuka Sekai wo Sukuu Tame ni -Qualidea Code- at around the same time.
In the meantime, have a great new year, everybody!
An TV anime adaptation for the Qualidea series has been announced. Here’s the first PV:
The PV only seems to feature characters from books 2 and 3 of the Qualidea series: Itsuka Sekai wo Sukuu Tame ni (by Tachibana Koushi) and Sonna Sekai wa Kowashite Shimae (by Sagara Sou). No Kuzu to Kinka characters yet, but who knows? It may get adapted as well.
At this point, it is difficult to tell whether the anime is a direct adaptation of the books or whether it is just loosely based off the characters and setting. It is described as an “anime original” project, so the anime and light novels may in fact contain quite different content. I will keep you posted as more information about this project comes to light. You can follow me on Twitter or keep up with my blog.
In the meantime, the Qualidea website has been revamped, so check it out.
In light of the anime announcement, I have a few things to announce as well.
First off, the Kuzu to Kinka translation is 94% done, so expect a full release early next year. In the meantime, chapter 5 is up on the site. Hope you enjoy it.
Some people have already asked, but yes I will try to translate all four Qualidea novels. They’ll get posted on this site as well. So stay tuned!
That’s about all I have to say for now. Have a good December holidays and I wish you all a great New Year.
A wordpress bug was preventing comments from being posted on the latest chapters. This has been fixed so you can now comment. Sorry for the inconvenience.

It seems that there will be four novels in the Qualidea project altogether. One of them, Itsuka Sekai wo Sukuu Tame ni – Qualidea Code has already been published. It’s written by Tachibana Koushi, the author of the Date a Live series. Official website here.
You can read an interview between Watari Wataru, Sagara Sou and Tachibana Koushi here [JAPANESE]. I’ll translate this interview at a later stage, but it seems like this project was developed quite spontaneously.
The four Qualidea novels will tell standalone stories, although they are set in the same world and may feature crossover elements. Although Kuzu to Kinka no Qualidea is supposedly a romcom, there are hints of a darker, apocalyptic backdrop in the chapter openings and the character names:
Haruma = Harumagedon (Armageddon).
Yuu = 夜羽, which can also be read as “Yohane“, which sounds identical to the Japanese name for the Biblical John (also known as Johannes).
Finally, I apologise for the infrequent updates for this project. I’ve been extremely busy working on my thesis. Still, this light novel should be finished by the end of the year at the latest. At the time of this writing, I’ve translated 40% of it in draft form, so the project is coming along well, albeit at a slower pace than my previous efforts.
One last thing before I end this post. Feel free to use my translation as a basis for your own translation. Email me at firstname.lastname@example.org if you need help or don’t understand some of the sentences. I can clarify the meaning of the original Japanese and amend my own translation accordingly. Thanks!
Anyway, the first three chapters are up, so I hope you enjoy them!
Hey, readers! It’s Frog-kun here. You might not know it, but this is actually my fourth Nano Desu project. I previously worked on Henneko, Oregairu and Aldnoah Extra. I’m pleased to present Qualidea of Scum and a Gold Coin, written by Watari Wataru (Oregairu) and Sagara Sou (Henneko).
This translation has been in the works for months now, so I apologise for the lateness. Now that Oregairu has been licensed by Yen Press, I suppose now is as good a time as any to release a new Watari Wataru work in English. Judging by the “TO BE CONTINUED” at the end of the volume, there will probably be even more Qualidea stories to come. There’s no guarantee that I will be translating any later volumes, but for now, I hope you enjoy the first volume! (Now watch as this series gets licensed too :P)
If you want more information about Qualidea, including a summary, character list and special messages from the authors, click here.
That’s all for now, folks. Hope you enjoy the ride!
